dear diary,

here now are the lyrics of the third song in this In Love CD, which i wrote between 1989 to 1997 when i stopped writing songs...i am lucky i was able to resume writing songs in April 2010 when i wrote the song, "Romblon, Romblon, My Home Sweet Home," which was followed by "The Marble Isles", May 2010, "Romblon is a town really worth living in", end of May 2010, and by "A Golden Jubilee Song for RHS Class 58," June 2010... since then i have been able to write other songs, in english, tagalog, and even "Vistaglish", a short term for "Visayan, Tagalog and English", something i really consider a great blessing...

dear diary,

oh i forgot to list the songs contained in the "in love" cd before
sending you the lyrics of the first song in said cd after whose title i
named the cd. so before i proceed any further, let me now just list the
songs in this cd. they are the following - 1)don't be afraid to fall in
love, 2)dearest one, 3) i've been searching, 4)today, 5)pasko ang
saksi, 6)christmas way (narration), 7)the stars would fall, 8)kahit na,

dear diary,

on  second thought, i have decided to proceed right away in sending you
the lyrics of songs i wrote that i have a cassette demo tape of or a
demo cd made from it. maybe it is better this way so we continue to keep
this project a fun project as it we intended it to be at the start. the
only way to stay on this path is by not getting ourselves involved in
serious matters.

by a strange stroke of good luck, i was able to bring with me  on our
return here to georgia last june 2009 a cassette tape which i could not
listen to during our stay in pasig because no music or any sound for
that matter would emanate from this cassette tape whenever i played it
on the cassette player of suseth.  but i brought it back here with me
anyway so i could use it for recording spanish songs on the radio here
should it in fact turn out to be a blank tape. 

when i played it here on my tape player, it turned out that this was not
a blank tape after all and it contained a demo recording of some songs
that i've written including, among others, christmas bells, sana naman
pagdating ng pasko, christmas time is here, and also a tagalog song the
lyrics of which i am now sending to you.

when i heard it for the first time since i recorded it maybe some ten or
more years ago, i must confess i felt that well this song could very
easily be one of my favorites from among the tagalog songs that i've
written. maybe mainly because of the melody.

in my notebook, there are some additional lyrics to the song but the
song as i recorded it with just the above lyrics seems to sound  good
enough to me so to leave it just the way it has been recorded maybe the
better option.

dear diary,

after that song i found in that cassette tape i thought was a blank
tape, i now send you the lyrics of the songs i've written that are now
contained in two cds which raf had caused to be made from the cassette
tapes in which they were originally recorded for demo purposes.

the container cases of these cds are marked disc 1 and 2. the discs
themselves however are not similarly marked so there is no way of
telling to which case each cd belongs. so, for identification purposes,
i'll just name the cds by the first song that appears therein. so, one
of them i'll call the "don't be afraid to fall in love" or " in love" cd
and the other i'll call the " how can i say you'll love me" or "love me"
cd.


so, the next lyrics i will send you are those of the songs that belong
to the  "in love" cd.

nakakagulat talaga yong balita tungkol kay tia juana kasi noong dumalaw

yong dalawang kopya noong libro niya na ibinigay nila doon sa dalwang
apo namin.

ewan ko kung bakit walang sulat sa akin si josie tungkol dito. at saka
akala ko si sonia lang ang tinawagan at pinauuwi ni netty. baka naman
sila tessie o josie na ang magbabalita kila ate ine at fe at saka myrna.
kasi nakabalik na din sila sa san francisco. meron ka uling balita mula

noong bago kami bumalik dito ay nahalungkat ko doon sa ilalim noong

kanta na sinulat ko at ginawan ni atty mario costo na anak ni ate rosing
ng guitar accompaniment. mga 1990 pa namin ito inirecord sa bahay sa gen
tinio.

tapos yong isang tape recording ay isinalin ni rafael sa dalawang cd.
nakakatuwa naman pakinggan yong mga kanta lalo na yong mga tagalog
songs. syempre, natutuwa ako kasi ako ang gumawa ng mga ito at maganda
din yong ginawang saliw sa guitara ni mario.

pag may time si allan, ipakokopya ko ang mga ito sa computer para
magbigyan ko kayo ng kopya. meron pa akong ilang mga kanta doon sa tape
recordings na naiwan ko sa pasig. pag may time si rafael, ipapalipat ko
din ito sa cd para mapadala niya dito. sa gabi pinakikinggan ko ito at
bago matapos ay nakakatulog na ako.

hindi ko akalain na pagkatapos ng mahabang panahon ay mapapakinggan ko
ulit ang mga kantang ito. akala ko nawala na ang mga ito. yon pala
naitabi ko sa loob ng isang kahon ng sapatos at nitong huling uwi namin
ko lang na halungkat. sayang at pabalik na kami dito noon kaya isang
tape lang ang naisalin sa cd. kung naaga-aga di sana naisalin na lahat
sa cd at may kopya na ako ng lahat dito.

hindi ko nga alam kung naisulat ko sa notebook ko ang mga letra ng
narration na yan. pero puede ko naman kunin ito doon sa demo cd na
ginawa ni raf para sa akin noong huling uwi namin sa pilipinas nitong
may-june 2009.

at saka ngayon ko naisip na siguro mas maigi na sa yo ko na lang muna
ipadala itong mga kinokopya kong lyrics mula sa notebook ko at pag

this song when i finished it he might have liked very much because he

later told me that he taught his son and daughter this song and asked

school. they were still in grade school at that time. after the party,
the classmates of his children started calling his children "christmas

one evening about two weeks ago, an acquaintance asked me if i believed
in christmas. when i told him that i did, he asked me what christmas is
all about and i told him it is the birthday of Jesus Christ.
he then said that this belief is not in accordance with the bible.. he
told me that he belongs to a church that teaches that december 25 is not
the true birthday of Jesus Christ. well, i told him that in the
philippines there are also churches that claim that Jesus Christ was not
born on december 25.

but i added that catholics believe that christmas is the birthday of
Jesus Christ.  i then told him i had the perfect christmas song for him
that dealt directly with this issue. i then continued by singing to him
a line from the next song in side B of the search for your dreams album

again tonight, i met  lady who when i greeted her happy thanksgiving day
came to me and said her church is teaching them that there is no special
holiday for thanksgiving because she said everybody should give
thanksgiving everyday.  and i said the same is true in the philippines.
there is no special day for thanksgiving because i said the belief there
is that everyday is thanksgiving day.

then she added that their church is teaching them that chistmas day is
not the true birthday of Jesus Christ. and i told her  it's the same in
the philippines because there are also churches there that do not

but since she was a complete stranger, i did not dare sing to her the

last night i asked a friend of mine to listen to this search for dreams
album at work. they let us have a cd player so we play christmas songs
during the season. when my friend heard the song "pasko ang naging
saksi..." he asked me what the song is all about.

i explained to him it is about a lovestory where the girl said "yes" to
the boy on  christmas day a year ago and so they both are saying that
christmas day is the living  testimony to their lovestory. everytime the
air starts getting cold, they  start feeling christmas is approaching
and so they await its coming with so much anticipation because they will
be celebrating the anniversary of the birth of their lovestory.

when the song "sana naman pagdating ng pasko" came up my friend no
longer asked me what it was about. maybe, he assumed it was just another
lovestory that started on chrismas day.

the next and final song in side A of the Search for your dreams album
that we recorded in 1993 is the song Fly to the Sky which is also
included in side A of the Christmas Way demo tape album. that being the
case, as per an idea i got last night from my nephew dr. jun v. a. chan,
i have decided to forward to you the  email dated november 29, 2009 that
i sent to you wherein the lyrics of the song are found with a brief
story about this song. this will  save time and effort in that i do not
have to retype the said lyrics and resend them to you.

after all, the difference in the way the lyrics were arranged in the two
album is that, in the search for your dreams album, the third and fourth
paragraphs of the song  were repeated by the singer.

ito na naman, may nag suggest na naman sa akin na subukan kong gumawa ng
parang fold song na kanta kaya ginawa ko itong susunod na kanta sa

pero ang hindi ko alam ay naging para din itong inspirational song. yong
isa ngang kaibigan ko na narinig yong kantang ito ay tumawag sa akin at

dear diary,

i don't think it will take me very long to send you the lyrics of the
songs contained in the Search for your dreams album.

as i have already said, this album was recorded in 1993 at Anchor
Electronic Media Center which eventually also became a sponsor of the
project.  it also took care of the reproduction of the cassette album.
also, josie and george villareal were among the sponsors of this
project.

the recording of the album was under the auspices of the musical
livelihood training program of the Foundation for active christian
evangelization and service (FACES) with which i was then associated. ka
Arthur P. Madulid was the director of this training program.

the message to the sponsors and patrons of the project found in the
inside page of the printed cover of this cassette album states that the
cassette is the product of the Foundation's first workshop on music
arrangement, singing, studio recording, editing, and dubbing under its
musical training program.

the cassette album contains seven love songs for christmas, one
inspirational song, that i all wrote... it also contains a  hymn version
of the Lord's prayer. i also wrote the melody for this hymn.....

those who participated in the production
of this cassette album as  singers, keyboard artists and guitarists,
were  classmates and friends of ana luisa acejas in the University of
Sto.Tomas (UST), namely,  Peggy Ann V. Malibunas. Rafael Vicente L.
Castillo, and Bryan M. Pabustan.

Also, my nephews, Margarito (Gary) A. Costo and Mario A. Costo and a
Faces associate, Virginia A. Estores, also participated in the
production of this cassette album as singers, arrangers and guitarist.

the title of this album was taken from the lyrics of the inspirational
song Fly to the sky.

but it's just another love song or a song about an imminent break-up.
that being the case, can the song still be considered a lovesong.

the other night i was asked to fetch a classmate of allen from school
because nobody else was available to do the task. on the way home, i
asked her how she liked the songs that were then playing on the
vehicle's record player a couple of which were tagalog songs that i've
written.. she said she found it "soothing" although she did not
understand the lyrics.

i asked her whether she also listened to vietnamese songs and what kind
of songs did she listen to. she told me that the vietnamese songs she
has listened to are mostly  songs about love and other relationships.

so, it's the same everywhere.  people write songs about love and other
relationships. and in the case of the next song, about an imminent break
up.

the third song on side B of the christmas way demo tape to my
recollection is the third song that i wrote but in my notebook the
lyrics thereof appear after the lyrics of four other songs. 

anyway, when a friend of mine heard me sing this song acappella he asked
me for a copy of the lyrics saying he'd like to sing it for someone. he
said he'd sing with the accompaniment of his guitar.

my notebook shows three dates after lyrics of this song. the earliest
is june 22,1991.  maybe, this is the date i finished the melody and the

the other day i gave a filipino friend of mine  a cassette copy of some
of my songs that i made from my cd here so he could listen to them in
his car. yesterday, he told me it is not a good idea for him to listen

i reminded him that is precisely why i told him beforehand that at home
i listen to my songs when it's time for me to go to sleep. most of the
time, after two or three songs, i am asleep already.

dear diary,

well, the second song in side B of my christmas way demo tape is
actually the very first song that i ever wrote. actually, the melody of
this song came into being out of the collaboration between myself and ka
(mr.) art p. madulid, who as i said earlier is a clarinetist and a wind
instrument instructor.

i wrote the lyrics based on the melody that the two of us were able to
piece together by clicking on the notes on the piano keyboard one finger
on one note at a time until the very last. then we recorded these notes
on my cassette tape recorder/player and then replayed the same over and
over again while i tried to write down each of the words of the lyrics
as i heard each of the note of the melody. 

i hope that i have been able to convey to you sufficiently clear enough
the manner in which we were able to write the melody of this song and
how i managed to write the lyrics therefof.

anyway, the original title of this song was "Stay oh my love..." but
since i made some changes in the melody and lyrics before i recorded the
song in this album with the help of my nephew mario a. costo, i decided
to change the title into "i will love you so much..,"

the dates appearing in my notebook indicate that  we wrote this song and
its original lyrics song on september 25,1989 and  that i added the
additional lyrics on october 22, 1990.  my impression then is that we
recorded the christmas way demo tape sometime after that. i really wish
now that we had dated this album at the time.
