dear diary,

i am now going to go into a little more detail on the subject of the
mechanical way of writing a song.

for instance, the first song that i wrote in collaboration with ka art
p. madulid, started when i wrote on a piece of pad paper several
combinations of notes like do re mi, mi re do, do sol fa, fa sol do, mi
re do, mi do re, and many others. after i did this, i asked ka art to
find out which of the said combinations would sound good to start the
melody of a song.

so he played the combinations of notes on the piano at home in morning
breeze, caloocan, one finger at a time. he finally concluded that the
combination of mi re do, mi do re was the right combination. so we made
this the starting point of the melody.

then we proceeded to find another combination of six notes that would
sound good to follow the first six notes. we continued this process
until we were able to complete a verse of melody composed of four lines
of six notes each.

for the chorus , we made a grouping of seven notes for each of the four
lines of said chorus.  we did this because we wanted to make sure that
the chorus or refrain will be different from the main verse.

it took us a while that night to find the combinations of notes in the
above groupings.

after that, we recorded the notes in a cassette tape. i listened to the
melody we were able to form, and i asked ka art if the tune sounded
original and not like any other song we've heard before.
and he said yes it sounded original to him and not like any other song
he could recall from memory.

this short account should suffice i think to describe the method we
employed in forming he melody of the first song i wrote in collaboration
with ka art

in my next email, i will describe to you how i wrote the lyrics for this
song.
